Since first being elected to City Council in 1999, and then as mayor in 2011, Arvada has achieved great things and reached major milestones. Arvada is an all-around great place to live, work and enjoy life. Below are some of my accomplishments as Mayor of Arvada.




  • Opened three Community Police Stations to provide quicker response time and promote community policing
  • Added additional officers
  • Maintained National Accreditation each year
  • Arvada remains one of the safest cities of its size in the United States




  • Arvada developed a 10-year budgeting model
  • The City attained and maintained AAA Bond Rating, resulting in significant tax savings on major projects
  • We have appropriate reserves in all of our fund accounts




  • Successful passage of bond issue for Ralston Road and 72nd Avenue projects
  • Construction of the Transit Hub in Olde Town
  • Championed the opening of the Gold Line
  • Increased annual budget for road maintenance to $10 million
  • Continued focus on clean water and Arvada’s utility systems
  • Advocated for expansion of Gross Reservoir to meet Arvada’s water needs into the future




  • Revitalization of Olde Town into a vibrant heart of our community
  • Business friendly environment, adding many new businesses and jobs
  • Streamlined our governmental approval processes




  • Supported and expanded our neighborhood parks and trail system
  • Remodeled both the Westwoods and Lake Arbor Clubhouses
  • Worked with the legislature to make more housing options open to our citizens




  • Have helped lead a responsive, cohesive City Council
  • Conducted Public Hearings in a manner to make speakers feel safe and heard
  • Served as President of the Colorado Municipal League
  • Currently Chair-elect of the Metro Mayors Caucus
  • Prior Elected Official of the Year of the Jefferson County Economic Development Corporation
